ICONOLOGY WORKSHOP

January 28, 29 & 30, 2008
9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
Bruton Parish House, Lewis Hall

This three day, mini-workshop introduces students to the practice and theory of the ancient Christian art of Icon-writing in the Byzantine-Russian tradition.

Students will “write” their own museum-quality icon using only natural materials: gessoed wood panels, genuine gold leaf, egg tempura, and a linseed oil finish. Students will learn to incorporate meaning, beauty, and the language of icons, as well as their theological history in the early Christian church.

No artistic experience is necessary and all materials are provided.
