About the Artist:
Born in Harrisburg, Pa., Janice Allmon discovered her talent for art at an early age. Her childhood was spent in an area famous for its artists and craftsmen as well as for its beautiful Quaker and Amish farmlands. She studied fine art at college in Ohio and graduated with a B.F.A. from Bowling Green State University in 1972. While working as a graphic artist and raising three daughters, Jan attended painting workshops to refine her technique and develop her artistic talent.

In March 1985 Jan and her family moved to Vermont. The New England landscape inspired her to paint watercolors, then pastels and oils. In 1988 she and her husband, Jim, opened Gallery On The Green in Woodstock, Vt., as a venue for professional artists to sell their work to collectors of representational art. As one of Gallery On The Green's artists, Jan became known for the gentle sensitivity and elegant lyricism of her garden paintings and still lifes, and many of her works have been released as limited edition prints.

In March 2003 the Allmons moved to Williamsburg to open Gallery On The Square as a sister gallery to the Vermont business. Since the Allmons' arrival, they have been actively involved in Williamsburg's cultural life, generously opening the gallery to serve as a venue for events benefiting many nonprofit organizations. The Art of Music Committee is grateful for their participation as hosts for the September 10 "Overture" Reception.
