Maggie Sobataka - Asian Idyll

About the Art:
A summer idyll in Asia is depicted with enamels on a gold leaf background. The design features a female figure in colorful silks, a blue dragon, and white cranes. The landscape surrounding these figures includes water, trees, iris, grasses, and a butterfly. The violin becomes an oriental pastoral panorama.

The winning Auction Bid for this violin was announced on
November 10, 2004.

About the Artist:
Growing up in the Chicago area, Maggie was influenced from childhood by an art-oriented family and the resources of a city where art thrives. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.A. in English. In 1986 Maggie dedicated herself to a professional career in art, joining arts organizations and committing time to developing fine arts programs in the communities in which she lived. Her watercolors and pastels have been presented in solo shows and have received many awards in juried exhibitions throughout the nation. She maintains memberships in the Central Ohio Watercolor Society, This Century Art Gallery (board member), and the Virginia Watercolor Society.
