Karen Anderson Schwartz
Mixed Watermedia

Vineyards at Dry Creek Road I, by Karen Anderson Schwartz
My paintings are an eclectic mix of various watermedia and styles. My landscapes tend to be impressionistic, my figures are dominated by shapes, and my still lifes tend to be more colorful. I usually paint with very thick, juicy watercolors on a prepared surface coated with light molding paste that I apply with a pallet knife. The molding paste provides a textured surface and allows me to lift the paint back to white if I need to.

Vege Avalance, by Karen Anderson Schwartz

I paint in layers of color and texture and frequently incorporate watercolor crayons to add a drawing element to my paintings. I enjoy collage and have been experimenting recently with incorporating collage into encaustic painting. I also sometimes use water-based oils to paint landscapes, especially if I'm working very small.

I exhibit regularly in the TCAG Upstairs Gallery and participated in group shows in the downstairs gallery in 2009 and 2003.
